About Me

ABOUT BLOG:

Created back in 2014 to share my NSLI-Y experience with friends, family, and future NSLI-Y applicants, I never expected so many would people to read this blog. With now 40,000 views from readers in multiple countries, I have tried to make this blog useful for anyone interested in NSLI-Y or just traveling to Korea on their own! This blog covers all sorts of Korea-related topics such as travel tips, restaurant recommendations, personal experiences, and NSLI-Y information.

Starting in 2018, the content of this blog will encompass more aspects of my life. While I will continue to post about Korea and NSLI-Y, my experience was six years ago... meaning a lot has changed. As life takes me different places, I want to share that with you all and show you how NSLI-Y has influenced my life academically, socially, and professionally. There will be content about not only Korea but also Hawaii and Washington, D.C!

If there is a topic you would like me to write about, leave a comment on any post or send me a message using the feature on the sidebar.

ABOUT LYDIA:

Many people have asked how I got interested in South Korea and the Korean language. My interest in South Korea started in the early years of elementary school thanks to the Korean exchange students at my school. The exchange students at my school exposed me to their language and culture, and ever since then I have been motivated to learn Korean with the eventual hope of traveling to Korea.

Prior to going to South Korea, I had only learned the Korean language casually from friends, TV, and music. Even though I have been "studying" Korean since the 6th grade, Korea class at Sogang University was my first exposure to the Korean language in a formal setting. In the short span of 6 weeks, my Korean improved to high intermediate/low advanced.

I feel so blessed to have received the NSLI-Y scholarship and spend my summer studying in South Korea back in 2014. The people I met, the places I went, and the lessons I learned are forever ingrained in my heart. I credit my NSLI-Y experience for a lot of what I am doing today.

I recently graduated from the George Washington University where my major was International Affairs with a double concentration in Asia and Security Policy, and I also did a double minor in Korean Language and Literature and Business Administration. I have been able to stay involved with NSLI-Y as an alumni orientation leader and interviewer.

I hope this has helped you get to know me more. I love talking about NSLI-Y and Korea, so feel free to leave a comment or send me a message.

If anyone has any questions about NSLI-Y, Korea, or GW, feel free to contact me and I would be more than happy to talk to you and show you around.
